So I guess the question is how do I access this important file on my laptop? I have an external hard drive, but it doesn’t have access to my laptop, so I’m not sure how to get to it. I’ve been using Dropbox and their app for years, but I don’t think I’ve ever had a file that I needed access to that was in the cloud. That said, there is no reason you can’t use Dropbox and FileVault 2 on your laptop.
I can use Dropbox on my computer just fine. But I think that Dropbox is a much better place to store files because it’s all networked together. If you want a file on your laptop, you’d have to go to your laptop’s Dropbox folder (which is not the same as the one in your computer) and copy it there. But if you’ve got the file on your computer, you can just drop the file in Dropbox’s computer folder.
